Anne Colville
Anne is an environmental toxicologist who has worked on a range of research projects at the University of Technology Sydney since the mid-1990s. These have included studies of metal uptake in freshwater mussels; effects of pesticides on macroinvertebrates in vitro and in mesocosms; cleanup methods for contaminated waters; and several projects looking at the distribution and effects of endocrine disrupting compounds and pharmaceuticals and personal care products in waterways.
Currently, she is working in the Freshwater and Estuarine Research Group at UTS with Simon Mitrovic and students, looking at factors affecting the growth and toxicity of cyanobacteria. Recently Anne was involved in a project by Sadia Sharmin on whether microplastics can act as vectors to transfer cyanotoxins into freshwater mussels. This stimulated an interest in methods and difficulties of carrying out environmental risk assessments of microplastics, and what types of experimental data would be most useful for such assessments.
